The cooktop is not going to work without induction compatible cookware. If no induction compatible cookware is detected, the unit will mechanically switch off. To check if your cookware is induction compatible, just take a refrigerator magnet and see If it sticks to the bottom of your pan/pot. If it sticks, your cookware is compatible
